Christophe Edouard Mauss

 The dome of the holy Sepulchre
In January 1862 the French foreign minister Thouvenel writes to the marquise Moustier the French ambassador in Const. about the negotiations with the Russians to reconstruct the Dome. 
In april 1862 the French ambassador and the Russian ambassodor  Lobanoff in Const. presnted the Turkish foreign minister Aali pasha with an identical note concerning the reconstruction of the Dome. The british government was also informed about the plan
In May 1862 the Porte gives his official agreement to the reconstruction plan and informs the 2 ambassadors that he wants to share the cost of the works
In August 1862 the 3 parties reach the final agreement and the official protccol was signed by the 2 ambassadors and the Turkish foreign minisrte in Const. on the 5th of September 1862 in Const.

Mauss in Pertra
Mauss participated in the expedition led by the duke of Luynes to the Dead sea,Petra in 1864 and the wrote with Sauvaire chancellier in the French Consulate  in Jerusalem the part which depicts the voyage from Jerusalem to Karak and Chaubak.
The book was published by the Comte de Vogue in 1871.

Archeologiste and expert on old languages 
In 1860 published a research about churches in the Hly land
In 1875 he published the book dsecribon the expedition of the duke De Luynes to the Holy land/
Mauss wrote the part relating the voyage from Jerusalem to Petra
De Vogue was the French ambassador in Constantinopol between 1871 to1875 and in Vienna between !875 to 1879

Abu Gosh
In 1870 the Greek Oth dox and the Latind had a dispute over the monastery of St George in Lydda.
The Sultan decided in favor of the Greeks

The French ambassador De Vogue and the consul general in Beirut demanded compesation
and finally an agreement was reached between the French and the Ottomans  andd the Porte issued a firman granting
the French the crusader St Jermia crusader church in Abugosh in 1873
Soon aftewards Mauss did the preliminary archeaological survey of the site and published his findings including drawings in the Revue Archeaologique of 1892 and
also details preceding the negotiatins between the 2 governments
De Vogue in 1912 described in his book Jerusalm his last visit to the Holy lan when he was 83 in which he visited Abugosh
He met the Benedectins who  got possesion of the site of the church from the French governmet in the 1890's and started to build the church in 1903 which was inaugurated in 1907.

St Anna
This was an important Crusader's church  until Jerusalem was conquered in 1187.
Salah a din turned it into a Madrasa to teach yong Muslims and named it Salahia
In 1856 after theallied victory in the Crimean war the Porte granted the French government as an act gratitude the site . De vogue and the French consul in Jerusalem Botta recommended the place.
On the 1 of November 1856 the new French consul in jerusalem De Barrere got the site which had only a skeketon of the old church becaue it was for a long time in disuse 
The future cardinal Lavigerie visited the site in 1861
The reconstruction was planned by De vogue and executed by Mauss. who supervised te construction works
The works started in1862 and finished in1877
The French government gave posseson of the renovated church to the Peres Blancs headed by Lavigerie in 1878 .
It also includes the Bethesda pool


Mauss and and The Baron Ludovic de Vaux
De Vaux published a book in 1883 about his voyage to Palestine. In the preface he emphasizes the contribution of Mauss who provided matreial in his personal possession and also did the drawings.
